The hardware crypto wallet provider plans to launch its Ledger Recover tool in the fourth quarter of 2023, but the tool has faced some criticism.

Ledger Published White Paper on New Feature

Leading hardware cryptocurrency wallet provider, Ledger, is approaching to offer a solution that allows users to backup and recover the cores of Ledger devices. On June 21, Ledger chief technology officer Charles Guillemet announced the Ledger Recover whitepaper via Twitter.

Guillemet stated that the service, provided by digital asset security firm Coincover, is scheduled to launch in the fourth quarter of 2023. The CTO said the main result of the whitepaper was reassurance that the new service is “100 percent secure.” However, he added that they have taken an open-source approach where users can learn how it works and examine the service.

The Ledger Recover whitepaper can be found on GitHub and describes the three basic process flows of a hardware wallet core: backup, restore, and securely wipe. The document also contains information on system design and cryptographic protocol. One particular implementation involves splitting the seed into shares using existing private key distribution technology known as Shamir backup.
