It also includes fixes that change the recommended dust limit for all participants of the Dogecoin network from 1 DOGE to 0.01 DOGE. With its very low block range, Dogecoin aims to provide users with an inexpensive way to transact. A dust deterrent was introduced in 2014 to combat on-chain spam.
Dogecoin Core includes some defaults in the software to reflect the developers’ recommendations on fees and dust limits. These defaults represent the developers’ best estimate of the parameters of these limits as of publication date.
Transactions with outputs below the dust limit are rejected by the wallet. Also, if the change output drops below 0.01 DOGE, the wallet discards the change. Instead, it pays miners a fee. When enough miners and relay nodes adopt the recently added relay dust limits, the recommended dust limit is expected to be lowered in the next release.
